The Beetroot Cafe
Welcome To The Beetroot Cafe!
Welcome to The Beetroot Cafe! I’m so happy to see you here. I hope you get a lot out of your time here, and find a wealth of resources to help you make your life easier and more fun!
The best place to start is in the foundation area. Use one of the Balance Wheels to measure the different areas of your life – if you’re here to make your business life easier and more fun, use the Business Balance Wheel; if you’re here to make your life in general easier and more fun, then use the Life Wheel. It’s not as if you have to make one choice and that’s it, you can always do both now, or come back for the other one! [importance of knowing where you are now]
Once you have a good idea of where you are now, set yourself up for success by moving on to ‘Know Your Values’ and ‘Value Your Values’. Your values are key to having an easy and fun life, and these exercises are worth doing even if you’ve done something similar before. When my life is out of kilter I always come back to these exercises. After that, it’s up to you whether you follow the logical route, or pick and choose depending on your circumstances. If you want some advice about what exercises would be best for you, ask in the forum and I’ll be happy to advise you.
Have fun!
Samx

Banishing The Shoulds To Run My Biz My Way
One of the joys of running your own business is that you get to call the shots when it comes to how it's run. I say 'joy', but actually, at the beginning, especially if you've been institutionalised in a large corporate organisation, it can be pretty daunting. Luckily...
How To Find The Good In Challenging Situations
During Snowmageddon a few weeks ago, I massively misjudged my fellow human's capacity for panic-buying. As a result, I ran perilously close to running out of milk for my porridge, the husband almost had to drink short blacks instead of lattes, and the veg for two of...
Seven Reasons You Should Choose To Work With Me
Any sales course worth its salt will feature a section on buyer behaviour. Research shows that when people are buying something that costs more than a few pounds, they need a number of good reasons to do so. Reasons that resonate with them and move them closer to...
Be Like A Dog When It Comes To Your Blog
When I'm writing a blog post, I like to take my time, sit down at my desk, scribble a few ideas in my notepad, choose one and draft it out. Maybe I'll have been for a walk in the sunlit countryside to get some inspiration. Once I've drafted the post, I like to type it...
How To Resurrect A Blogging Habit
Blogging is as hard or as easy as you want to make it. It's easy because all a blog post really consists of is a story, and we tell stories all the time. But we can choose to make it hard for ourselves by judging the story - is it good enough, or right enough, or...
The Joy Of A Hybrid Dog Walk
I have many reasons to be grateful, and two of those reasons are my family's holiday home in Kenmore, and having Kimber. Not necessarily in that order, although I can hear Kimber tearing some paper apart in the next room, so let's hope that's nothing too important......
Why Casual Sexism Is Not Okay
When Sam Querrey beat Andy Murray in their 2017 Wimbledon quarter-final match, Andy Murray went viral on Social Media. Not for anything he did in the match, but for calling out a reporter afterwards on his casual sexism. The reporter had stated that Sam Querrey was...
Our Six Best Dog Friendly Eateries In Edinburgh
The husband and I like to eat out. We like good food and decent wine, and when we first got Kimber we were worried that we might have to compromise on our dining-out experience, or train her to wait at home. Thankfully we were worrying about nothing, because more and...
Five Things I’ve Learned About Writing
Whether you're writing fact or fiction, these five lessons I've learned are invaluable. It's easy to become overwhelmed by all the choices When you write, you're faced with a myriad of choices, and the key is not to become overwhelmed by them. One of the...
The Joys Of Cooking With Fire
Nostalgia is a natural by-product of progress, and it's thanks to nostalgia that we've gone a little bit retro in our household. Specifically when it comes to cooking outdoors. And it seems that we're not alone in reverting to how we did things in the past. When it...
